This is a NON-Spoiler review for Wonder Woman.
Plot Summary: "Before she was Wonder Woman she was Diana, Princess of the Amazons, trained warrior. When a pilot crashes and tells of conflict in the outside world, she leaves home to fight a war to end all wars, discovering her full powers and true destiny."
I just want to start by saying that I really really enjoyed this movie. Wonder Woman is by far the best DCEU movie. The DCEU's future is looking very bright. I'm starting to like Man of Steel more, I really hated Batman v Superman, I tolerated Suicide Squad, and now we get this. DC's future is looking good with Matt Reeve's directing The Batman and possibly Robert Zemeckis directing The Flash. However, in my opinion, Justice League looks like complete garbage.
A lot of people complain about the casting of Gal Gadot. At times in the movie, I can understand that. I think she fits the role quite well. But at the beginning of the movie, it is obvious that Gal Gadot is struggling. She's no Hayden Christensen but some of her line deliveries I thought were very rough at the beginning of the movie. But in the end, Gal Gadot is doing her best and she does a good job. I thought the green screens and the CGI were quite often not horrible but very noticeable. The villain seems to be a big problem in every superhero movie sadly. And it's no different in Wonder Woman. I thought the villain was very dumb and horribly cast. This concludes my complaints.
It's crazy that this is the very first female-led superhero movie. It's a great one to start with though. Immediately this movie didn't feel anything like Zack Snyder's movies. This movie is absolutely the best looking DCEU movie. It's extremely colorful. The way we were introduced to Wonder Woman's world Themyscira was very cool and intriguing. I thought the humor was very well balanced. In fact, everything is balanced. One of the best parts of the movie is the way we get to see the story through Diana's eyes, which I found very intriguing. The dynamic between Wonder Woman and Chris Pines' character was great. You get two fish out of water stories. You have Chris Pine discovering Diana's world. And you have Diana discovering the world that we know as normal. I really like stories where a character from another world comes to ours and asks a bunch of very funny questions. You get a lot of great and funny scenes with Diana learning about our world from Chris Pine.
The action scenes are really really fun. I think this movie has some of the best action scenes of the year so far. The score during the action was riveting and actually gave me chills. Something that I really appreciated with this movie, was that it felt like a Wonder Woman story and not DC Part 4. There wasn't one set up for Justice League. You could honestly watch this movie without seeing a single DC movie. They should have made this before Batman v Superman. Wonder Woman did what every solo superhero movie should do, and that is - make me like the character. Patty Jenkins directed this absolutely beautifully. Wonder Woman is a very fun and very well directed and a great character driven female led solo superhero movie that makes me want to read Wonder Woman comics. I think Wonder Woman is the probably the best DC movie since The Dark Knight Rises. Overall, I really really liked Wonder Woman and I'm excited to see it again. I absolutely recommend this movie in IMAX this weekend. My grade for Wonder Woman is an A-
