This is a NON-Spoiler review for The Space Between Us. I saw Lion and The Space Between Us yesterday and one of them I completely loved and I think is one of the best movies of last year and one I hated.
Plot Summary: "The first human born on Mars travels to Earth for the first time, experiencing the wonders of the planet through fresh eyes. He embarks on an adventure with a street smart girl to discover how he came to be."
This is the movie I hated! This felt like a Disney Channel original movie. And that's not a good thing at all. I was laughing at how bad some of the scenes were. The dialogue is AWFUL! All the acting is either really bad or rough. It's hard to tell when it's the actors and fault and when it's the director's fault but for this one, I definitely blame the director. Even Gary Oldman was a bit rough because you can't make a bad script and bad direction work.
I was really interested in this movie. I thought it looked very interesting and yes it is a cool concept of a kid born on mars. But the concept isn't as interesting as Mork and Mindy. A great sitcom is more intriguing than this 2017 movie. Britt Robertson and Asa Butterfield are not good at picking movies to star in. I really like Britt Robertson but she keeps picking bad movies. I don't really like Asa Butterfield and thank GOODNESS he's not Spider-Man.
This movie makes no sense at times. The kid is raised by scientists and he watches old movies on mars and somehow he doesn't know what a horse is. Just about every scene has a pop song that doesn't fit. So many scenes were completely cheesy. The script is absolute crap with terrible dialogue and exposition. The cinematography was also bad at times.
Overall The Space Between Us is crap. The romance made no sense at all and it always just felt awkward. So many scenes I just thought "what the crap is happening?" The two main characters are actually stupid and terrible people. And there's a twist that's so creepy and dumb. I didn't find anything enjoyable about this movie other than to laugh. I beg you not to see this movie. And looking at the box office, it doesn't look like any of you have. The grade for The Space Between us is an F. Expect a review for a great movie called Lion soon.
