This is a NON-Spoiler review for Storks. The first time I saw the trailer for this movie I wasn’t very interested. Later, I saw the second trailer and there were some jokes that I thought were funny. So I decided to give it a shot. It’s by the same studio that did The LEGO Movie. I LOVE! The LEGO Movie. So that was a plus for me. I love The LEGO Movie because it’s my kind of humor. My kind of humor is, I guess I’d say, is a bit like fourth-wall breaking humor. Phineas and Ferb and The Muppets did a lot of that kind of humor. Like in a movie when someone has a flashback and when the flashback is over, the person who was talking to them says “You’ve been standing there for about four minutes”. Or in The Muppets "Maybe we should travel by map!".
IMDB’s Plot Summary: “Storks have moved on from delivering babies to packages. But when an order for a baby appears, the best delivery stork must scramble to fix the error by delivering the baby.
“What did you think?” I really enjoyed Storks. I thought it was really funny. Storks was purely a comedy and much less an adventure with comedy in it. It did have a lot of The LEGO Movie or Phineas and Ferb or Muppets type humor that I really love. The story is really fast paced, which I liked. There’s a lot of funny characters. My favorite character was Pigeon Toady. When Pigeon Toady was just sitting there he made me laugh. I really loved the theme of the whole movie. It felt very cartoonish. And I really got invested in the mission to deliver the baby.
Let me begins my few complaints. I think that 40% of the jokes fell flat and didn’t really make me laugh and sometimes didn’t make sense. I think 40% is a bit too high of a number. The LEGO Movie was like 10% of the jokes weren't good. Some scenes in Storks were a bit like “We interrupt this story to bring you this random scene that's supposed to be funny”.
I really liked the look of the animation. Like the birds in the movie, their arms looked very human like. It was the kind of animation that all the characters move at lightning speed. The babies in the movie seemed much more like human babies than any animated movie I’ve ever seen. There’s a reason the animation looks good ...the director. The director of this movie is Doug Sweetland. He is a guy who has been an animator at Pixar since the beginning. He directed one of my favorite Pixar shorts called Presto.
So I definitely recommend Storks for families this weekend. But if you aren’t going with the family go see The Magnificent Seven, PLEASE!. Expect a review for Pete's Dragon very soon.
