This movie is better than you may have heard. I really enjoyed it. It was way better than the first movie. The biggest complaint I’ve heard people saying is that the magic tricks in this movie weren’t realistic - like in the first when they jump off a building and turn into money. People are thinking, “they can’t just do that.” But I think that people are taking it too seriously. Who cares if they didn’t ACTUALLY do that trick? It’s fun! You’re supposed to enjoy the movie and not think about if that trick is actually possible. Does anyone care if the Iron Man suit is actually possible? If you can let go of that then the movie is really fun. They were some really fun magic trick scenes.
It’s definitely more fun than the last. The last movie I think was less fun and more about the FBI tracking The Horsemen. This new movie follows The Horsemen instead of the FBI. Which I think is way more fun. It gives us more time watching The Horsemen pull off heists, fool the FBI (Idiots) and do some really fun magic tricks. Another thing I love is that The Horsemen are like Robin Hood who are criminals that take down big and bad businessmen. In the first movie, the movie treated them like the villain sometimes. This one lets you get behind them.
Now let me get to my complaints. This movie explains the magic tricks a bit too much. By the end of the movie I know how they did pretty much every trick. And I think they did that because of the annoying people complaining about the magic tricks being unrealistic, and the filmmakers are trying to explain it more. I’m not saying they should keep all the tricks a secret but there were some I would have preferred for them to stay a mystery box. Another complaint is Woody Harrelson’s twin brother who is played by him. He would have been fine if he was funny. Every scene with him was trying to be funny but I only laughed a couple times. Which makes him annoying and he's in the movie too much. I love Jesse Eisenberg, so I was excited to see him again, but it seemed like he was a bit under acting. He doesn't seem like himself. He seems a bit depressed. Probably because of Dawn of Justice. (And yes I do call BvS that because that's all the movie is). I really don’t like Dave Franco in anything. EVER! (Thank goodness he’s not playing Han Solo).
That’s all my complaints other than a few rough scenes. I loved Daniel Radcliffe. He brought this Science vs. Magic battle which I thought was really cool. I would have liked more of that though. They replaced Isla Fisher with Lizzy Caplan. I like Lizzy Caplan's character way more. She was funny. Sometimes it was a little annoying but mostly funny. Woody Harrelson is a hypnotist, Dave Franco is a card trick magician, Jesse Eisenberg as the leader and Isla Fisher did really nothing at all. She was pretty much just the assistant. Lizzy Caplan’s character does these violent illusions. Like making it look like her arm just got cut off as a distraction. This movie had a tone that I liked much more than the first. They're planning a third movie that they set up a lot better than some movies (Dawn of Justice) that I will definitely go see.
