This is a NON-Spoiler review for La La Land.
Plot Summary: "Struggling actress Mia (Emma Stone) and aspiring jazz pianist Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) begin a whirlwind romance as they both pursue their dreams in Los Angeles."
This is my favorite movie of 2016. It's awesome to see musicals make a comeback. I really love musicals. Singin' in the Rain is one of my favorite movies. La La Land is perfectly balanced to get the world used to musicals again. It isn't heavy on the musical part so non-musical fans like the movie. And musical fans like myself will be satisfied and at the same time, we're excited to see it return. IT'S PERFECT!
Damien Chazelle understands what musicals are, and they aren't about reality. To me, whenever something unusual happens like someone breaking into song, that's the story completely diving into the way the characters are feeling. Whenever Gene Kelly sings the song Singin' in the Rain it's showing us how amazing he feels. And it's not about what's really happening. And the filmmakers of La La Land I think understood that.
It really makes me happy to see Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone both do two of my favorite movies of the year. They were rebooted out The Amazing Spider-Man series. So Andrew Garfield did amazing in Hacksaw Ridge which was remarkable and was my second favorite movie of the year. Emma Stone did La La Land which she's amazing in. The director of both Amazing Spider-Man movies is making a movie called "Gifted" starring Chris Evans which looks really good. And the Spider-Man character went to much better places with Tom Holland in Civil War and soon to be Spider-Man: Homecoming. It ended perfectly.
There are some absolutely beautiful shots and full scenes. The songs are so good and they make you smile. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are perfect in this film and have some of the best chemistry I've ever seen. I really think they both deserve Oscar nominations. I was very emotionally attached to both of the characters accomplishing their dreams. Emma Stone is plays aspiring actress and her crappy auditions made me furious. And you love them both so much. It's one of my favorite love stories ever. The dialog is really great and funny. La La Land was such a special story to me personally. This is a story about dreamers for dreamers. You are missing out if you don't see this movie. The grade for La La Land is an A+. Don't miss this movie please! It hits a wide release on January 6. You're gonna love it. DON'T MISS IT!
