  • This is a spoiler-free review of Jason Bourne. But I do have spoilers for the first three Bourne movies.

  • I’ve been a Bourne fan for years. The character Jason Bourne is my absolute favorite spy. What makes Bourne remarkable and unique is that he's ten times more human than any other spy, like James Bond. Example: the scene in The Bourne Supremacy where he has to admit to the Neski daughter that he killed her parents. Or at the end of The Bourne Ultimatum when Jason is on the roof and an agent is about to shoot him and Jason tells him "Look at this. Look at what they made you give." Scenes like that are so great human scenes. They show how much it would suck to have that job. The Bourne Trilogy is also one of the best action trilogies ever. Definitely one of my favorites. I love the character and I love this series.

  • I have been waiting for years to see another Bourne movie with Matt Damon. I was SO excited for this movie. Definitely one of the movies I was looking forward to the most this year. Well, this movie made me leave the theater very depressed. Almost nothing that I love about the first 3 movies is in the new movie. I went in expecting to see another amazing action-filled adventure. But because I went in expecting that, I was really really bored with this movie. It kills me to say that.

  • I had no reason to think this movie would be boring. Paul Greengrass returned to direct, Matt Damon was back and producing, And it looked awesome. But by comparison this movie had barely any action. The hand-to-hand shaky cam scenes from the first 3 movies were awesome. But there was almost none of that in Jason Bourne. Like the scene in The Bourne Ultimatum where Bourne jumps through a window and beats an agent with a book. There was barely anything like that. There was one scene at the very end of the movie that was an okay hand-to-hand scene but NOTHING compared the first 3.

  • There also wasn't any scenes with Jason just being awesome. Like in Supremacy in the apartment where Jason opens up the gas pipe and puts a magazine in the toaster and the whole place blows up. Or Jason calling Pamela Landy and when they finish their conversation he says "Get some rest. You look tired.", revealing that he’s watching her. I can go on and on. Again in Jason Bourne, there was one scene that was okay. But it didn't impress me. And worst of all, what makes Bourne my favorite spy, this movie had none of. This movie showed barely any of Bourne being human. And how much it sucks to be him. I never felt sad for Jason in this movie. All he did was hunt people. This movie doesn’t have a good story at all.

  • Also, something that I always loved about The Bourne Trilogy is that in the car chase scenes, everyone including Bourne will be driving normal cars. Most spy movies would have the hero jump in a Ferrari or a Lamborghini. Jason drives normal cars. In this new movie, Jason drives a Dodge Charger. They couldn't even get that right! I was so bored in this movie. This movie was such a letdown for me.

  • I think that maybe it could have been time to find a new director. Maybe Paul Greengrass was getting bored with this series and held back. I don't know. Before I saw this movie I would have wanted no one else besides Paul Greengrass. But now I'm thinking maybe someone like Christopher McQuarrie (Producer of Edge of Tomorrow. Director of Jack Reacher, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.) could have done better.

  • So if you go into this movie as a fan of The Bourne Trilogy and expect The Bourne Trilogy, you will probably be disappointed, in my opinion - which is sad because that's the crowd that this movie was aiming for. They were aiming for the Bourne fans but they didn't live up to one of the best action trilogies of all time at all. I spent the whole movie wishing I was watching The Bourne Identity or Supremacy or Ultimatum. But on the bright side it is a LOT better than The Bourne Legacy with Jeremy Renner.

  • But maybe now I've lowered your expectations and maybe you'll like it. Because there is still some fun action. I think that Matt Damon will probably do another Bourne movie. And I’m hoping that they will do another. I’m all for giving them a chance to learn from their mistakes. Man! I really REALLY REAAALLLYY wanted to love this one.

  • I would suggest giving this movie a try even though it’s not good in comparison to The Bourne Trilogy in any way. This movie isn’t bad - this isn’t a terrible movie. But when you’re a Bourne fan or your expectations are too high then you will be disappointed. But if you don’t want to give Jason Bourne a shot then I recommend seeing Star Trek Beyond this weekend if you haven't seen it yet. Or go and watch one of the old Bourne movies. Really wanted to love this one. Thanks for reading.
