This is a NON-Spoiler review for Jackie.
Plot Summary: "After her husband's assassination, Jackie Kennedy's (Natalie Portman) world is completely shattered. Traumatized and reeling with grief, over the course of the next week she must confront the unimaginable: consoling their two young children, vacating the home she painstakingly restored and planning her husband's funeral. Jackie quickly realizes that the next seven days will determine how history will define her husband's legacy - and how she herself will be remembered."
I think Natalie Portman deserves the Oscar win for this movie. I'm really rooting for Emma Stone for La La Land, but Natalie Portman kills it here. She really grabs you and makes you so fascinated by watching her. I'm not familiar with the real Jackie Kennedy so I don't know if she's accurate or not, but I do know that she disappears into this performance. And she really makes this event very intense and very scary. Jackie is a very good movie, it's not perfect but it's pretty good.
One of my favorite things in this movie is Mica Levi's score. Mica Levi, I think also deserves an Oscar this year. Right out of the gate the score makes you feel weak and dreary. It sometimes was a bit out there, and I think it was sometimes used in the wrong places but I still loved it. I also really liked the cinematography. It was very refreshing to see a history movie with a completely different style of the shots and the colors. The dialogue is also great and really grabbed me. The editing is sometimes amazing and can make some moments really haunting but it also sometimes is really rough and noticeable. Another standout performance that I really liked was John Hurt. The scenes with John Hurt and Natalie Portman were some of the best scenes in the movie.
Jackie does have some story problems. The interesting stuff wears out a little bit after a while. It's kinda slow at times. After a little bit, it doesn't really go anywhere and the movie becomes a little bit boring. In the theater, I was thinking - "Okay...we need to go somewhere now. Let's pick it up." Towards the end it gets interesting. It definitely ends strong. But overall it's a very very intense and fascinating movie that I want to see again. It's not a story about the president getting shot, it's a very emotional and haunting story about a husband getting shot. And Natalie Portman is incredible as Jackie Kennedy. You all should definitely see this movie at some point. I don't think you necessarily have to see in theaters, but I definitely recommend it when it comes out. It's a very good film, I really liked it and I found it very riveting at times. Jackie is definitely worth your time. The grade for Jackie is a B+
