Independence Day: Resurgence: Review

Here is my review of this movie. I do warn you I have SPOILERS for the first Independence Day. I thought this was an "eh" movie. I found it boring. (I know, hard to believe right?) What I enjoy about the first Independence Day is that it took some time to get to the fun but it had a lot of humor and a lighthearted tone to keep you entertained. Like with characters played by Jeff Goldblum, Will Smith, Judd Hirsch, etc., this new movie has A LOT longer road to get fun and it takes out the lighthearted tone and adds a dark and futuristic tone. And it attempted to be funny sometimes and most of the time it didn't make me laugh. -except the few funny moments with Jeff Goldblum and Judd Hirsch. We also got these really really boring new characters which none of them I cared about at all which makes the really long time it took to get to the fun was pretty boring. I saw a double feature with both the first and second movie, and people in my theater were laughing quite a bit at the first but rarely ever did at the second. That makes me believe that Will Smith could have helped this movie to bring at least some of the humor back.

The fun and action in the movie was kind of boring as well. The big finale felt like I was watching the wrong movie (I won't say which). In the first movie the whole world had to take out these GIGANTIC alien ships all over the world. But in this one the big ship that comes back that you see in the trailers doesn't ever really do anything at all. They replaced the main event with the big ships from the first movie with something a lot smaller that involved maybe 20 people. This new finale would have been a cool feature in the movie but it shouldn't have been THE ACTUAL FINALE.

There's not much in this new movie that I loved about the first at all. There were so many memorable scenes in the first like Will Smith punching an alien and dragging it or the White House blowing up or "Hello boys! I'm baaack!". This new one had nothing like that. So overall my opinion is that this movie was disappointing although it had some fun moments.
