  • This is a NON-Spoiler review for Gifted

  • Plot Summary: "Frank Adler (Chris Evans) is a single man raising a child - his spirited young niece Mary (Mckenna Grace) - in a coastal town in Florida. Frank's plans for a normal school life for Mary are foiled when the 7-year-old's mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank's formidable mother, Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan), whose plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate Frank and Mary."

  • I have been anticipating this film. I'm a fan of the director Marc Webb. He directed one of my favorite movies of all time (500) Days of Summer. He also directed both Amazing Spider-Man movies. The Amazing Spider-Man series is a bit of a sad story. It ended in the middle of a trilogy and I love all the people who were a part it. I love the character Spider-Man, I love Andrew Garfield, I love Emma Stone, and I love Marc Webb. All four of those pieces of the series went on to do better things, which is awesome to see. And this is where Marc Webb went. And it's a good movie but I was expecting something awesome from Marc Webb.

  • In my opinion, there was nothing particularly special about the writing or the story. The thing that makes this movie good is Chris Evans playing Frank and the young actress Mckenna Grace playing Mary, who are fantastic together. Mckenna Grace deserves a ton of credit for this film. If Mckenna Grace wasn't as amazing as she was, I don't think the movie would have worked. She was very funny and did amazing in the dramatic scenes. In my opinion, the only thing that had me invested in this story was the relationship between the two. Jenny Slate did a really good job as well. I love Octavia Spencer and she's fun to watch in this film but to be honest, I think her character could have been played by anyone. I'd prefer that she take roles that are as good as she is and that really challenge her and show her talent.

  • I think that this story was as well made as it could have been, but the story wasn't good enough to be anything memorable. Gifted is an interesting story with a great relationship that gets's emotional at times. It's not Toy Story 3 level, but it is emotional. There's nothing wrong with this movie. It's pretty good but it's not a story that's gonna give you something great other than the tearjerker scenes with Chris Evans and Mckenna Grace. Overall Gifted isn't very memorable but it is a sweet movie with great acting. I don't think this is a movie that you need to see in the theaters. I think checking it out at home when it releases will be fine. But if you've seen all the great movies out already and you're looking for a new movie to go see this weekend, I think you'll enjoy Gifted. My grade for Gifted is a B
