  • This is a NON-Spoiler review for Baby Driver. I know that I'm super late to the party on this one. But this movie was a blast.

  • Plot Summary: "Talented getaway driver Baby (Ansel Elgort) relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After meeting the woman (Lily James) of his dreams, he sees a chance to ditch his shady lifestyle and make a clean break. Coerced into working for a crime boss (Kevin Spacey), Baby must face the music as a doomed heist threatens his life, love, and freedom."

  • This is the first movie I've seen directed by Edgar Wright. And I want to see anything else this guy has done or is going to do. This is some of the best directing I've seen all year. Every scene is shot and written in the most interesting way possible. It is not easy to make car chase scenes work. The best car chase scenes we get today are from crap movies like Fast & Furious. In my opinion, Baby Driver has the best car action scenes since Mad Max: Fury Road. The music and the sound design and the cinematography made those scenes riveting. And you don't get to see a really good car chase movie very often anymore.

  • There are a lot of trailers today that have sound effects like gun shots that are on the beat with the music. It's a really cool thing but it's never in the movie. That editing to the music style of trailers is in Baby Driver and it's awesome. Now some people may find that cheesy but I had a lot of fun with it. Like Guardians of the Galaxy, the music is like a character in this movie. The music really makes the actions scenes blood pumping. I think this movie deserves an Oscar for Best Editing. The editing and the music and the directing made the car chase scenes an absolute blast.

  • If you've read my Spider-Man review then you'll remember when I said I wanted a new Back to the Future movie starring Tom Holland as Marty's nephew meeting Doc and going on another adventure. I want Edgar Wright to direct it. His style of directing and writing I think would be perfect for a new Back to the Future story. Edgar Wright and Ansel Elgort were able to make the character of Baby so charismatic with minimal dialogue. From the opening scene, you understand exactly who this guy is. And the way he films everything makes everything so much fun. And the movie has some slightly over the top moments but it doesn't ask you to take it too seriously. Which I think is perfect for Back to the Future.

  • The whole cast does a great job. Ansel Elgort kills this role. He and Lily James have very good chemistry. The one flaw I have with the movie is that the romance felt a bit rushed. All the supporting cast like Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm all do an excellent job. The script is really fantastic. As I said, there isn't a TON of dialogue. It's definitely not an Aaron Sorkin movie. It's a very visual movie most of the time. But the little dialogue that it is there is great. The part where the writing really gets to shine is later in the movie when Edgar Wright does a wonderful job at building extreme tension. Pretty much every scene is perfect. I think Edgar Wright deserves an Oscar nomination for Best Directing. This movie is currently in my top 5 best movies of the year list. You guys should all check out Baby Driver before it's too late. My grade for Baby Driver is an A
